Church Recorders are NADFAS volunteers who make records of the contents of our national churches, thereby promoting the recognition and preservation of the rich artistic heritage to be found in places of worship of all religions. The items are described in detail and their history researched.

All the material is then compiled into a book illustrated with photographs and drawings. This is presented to the church and copies are sent to national institutions.

The two Church Recording groups working in the City of London are putting the final touches to the Records of St Andrew-by-the-Wardrobe and St Lawrence Jewry with a view to presenting them this autumn. We now need more members in preparation for our next churches: All Hallows-by-the-Tower and St Vedast. The commitment is for two or three years, coming to the church once a month, having basic computer skills, and willing to do some research between church visits. The All Hallows group meets on Tuesdays and we need more members including a compiler and photographer. The St Vedast group meets on Wednesdays and has members from several DFASs as well as Friends of the City Churches. If you would like to join one of the groups please contact Emma Nells for All Hallows ( and Liz Chalmers for St Vedast (
